About Historical Algarium
FOREWORD BY LINO PARAVANO

This seaweed collection (algarium) has no didactic aim, informational or academic purpose. It is simply a unique historical collection of seaweed, started long ago in 1949, developed over the years by my predecessors, to whom I express a special thank you, and finally continued by me.

I thank Professor Walter Simonetti and Professor Marta Watschinger for introducing me to the love of botany; Dr. Claudio Sada and Dr. Vittorio de Rinaldini for giving me the opportunity to enter this odd world of seaweed; and Dr. Giancarlo Buzzonetti and Dr. Gianfranco Vitale for providing the enthusiasm by which, today, I have become involved in this project.

Particular thanks go to Mr. Sindunata Sambudhi for his support and efforts in enabling this collection to be presented to the public as a patrimony of the seaweed community and for me, allowing a dream to come true.

Out of respect I have kept the botanicals and common names of species of seaweeds given by

contributors and collectors from all around the world, which may, in some instances, be open to debate.

I hope that while in my care and with the ongoing support of my young friends and partners Donny and Michael, that I am able to maintain the spirit which this collection was started.
